I need financial literacy books, external hard drive, and an external CD drive to help me learn more about financial literacy to teach my students about financial literacy.
I have been a special education teacher in a diverse and urban school community for 3 years. I just started my first year as a resource specialist teacher. What makes my classroom special is that I always provide equal learning opportunities for my students and I never allow my students to give up on themselves. I always push my students to do well and encourage them to keep trying their best no matter how many tries it takes them. I am absolutely dedicated and passionate about teaching students in the special education setting.
I want to teach my students to change their mindsets from "I can't" to "I can".
Throughout the few years that I've been teaching, I have met all sorts of students who have all helped me grow to become the teacher that I am today and I thank them every day for that. I have learned that different students learn in different ways and I must adapt to their learning styles while always learning new things to teach my students so that they can have the most valuable and versatile learning experience in my classroom.
My Project
The students I teach live in an urban, Title I charter school in Los Angeles, California. My students all come from various backgrounds, including English language learners, and immigrant families. Over 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch and are in families that are earning a salary slightly near the poverty line. Unfortunately, our school has very little funding for even classroom supplies and especially for professional development resources for conference funding for teachers.
Many of my students' strengths and interest in the area of technology is growing, however, their financial literacy skills are not as strong because they are still in elementary school and in special education.
I need these materials to help me educate myself about financial literacy skills so that I can educate my students about how to financially plan for their future. Being in special education, people often think that they cannot learn new things or that they don't retain information. Using the books, I can make tailored lesson plans to give my students access to financial literacy lessons on their level. Using the external hard drive, I can save my power points and research information there. Using the external CD drive students can listen/watch DVDs/CDs to talks given by famous entrepreneurs to help them learn about financial literacy. When educating students, it's best to start them young. I want to be able to provide my students access to as much as information as they can learn.
