We are hoping to get local artist, Mijumi, to visit for an artist in residence workshop for the 2016-17 school year. Our students come from a very diverse population both ethnically and financially. Sadly, many students have never been to an art museum. Also, recently our school system has been hit hard with budget cuts and funding like this will help bring the arts to all of our student population that may not otherwise have an opportunity. This artist in residence visit would service 120 students (or more) of the 300 sixth grade students I see.
My Project
Artist Mijumi has stated "I make art because the thoughts and ideas in my head need to escape. Art is something that I have been doing for as long as I can remember. My materials may have progressed over time from construction paper and crayons to canvases and paint, but the need to create has always been there. I would describe my style as evolving. I start with an empty canvas, a few buckets of paint, and a select set of favorite tools."
He builds the foundation of his work with various shapes and patterns and it evolves into something that looks like an explosion of geometric shapes intertwined with a mess of paint splatters.
The controlled mess is an organized chaos.
Students will create paintings in the style and flair of artist Mijumi. We will use acrylic paints to achieve action paintings that have energy and are visually dynamic. Paint will be dripped, splattered and moved around the canvas in exciting ways.
It takes a lot of paint to be able to achieve this particular artistic style. Your donation will help purchase the paint we will need to go forward with the artist's vision.
