My Students
Dissecting owl pellets is a great opportunity for my students that will help them learn more about the environment and how to take care of it!
My fourth grade classroom has a very diverse group of students.
They all vary in ethnicity, home language, and socioeconomic status. My class has some English Language Learners whose speaking ability in the English language vary. But one thing they all have in common is that they all come eager to school to learn. School exposes my students to experiences and knowledge that their home life cannot always provide. My school is a Title 1 school. My students don't always have access to the best resources that are needed to learn. As their teacher, it is my goal to provide my students with the best education possible, to help them succeed academically and be productive citizens that return to their community. With your help, we'll be able to reach these goals that could change the lives of my students forever.
My Project
By dissecting owl pellets, my students will have an opportunity to literally get their hands on the food chain. Students are learning about how the food chain and how animals get energy from one another.
By dissecting owl pellets, my students get to be ecologists.
They get a chance to do real science and make their own hypothesis about what the owl ate. This will be a positive and memorable opportunity for the students to see themselves as scientists and be able to ignite a life long passion for the environment, animals and , or course, science. Students will solve a real life mystery of what the owl ate.
