My students need a few supplies to get our garden restarted. A new hose and garden timers will insure our plants stay watered."Fast plants" will allow us to grow and observe plants inside.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are a cross-section of California. Our school is a public school in the San Francisco Bay Area. Many of our students are immigrants and first-generation Americans. They are enthusiastic learners who thrive on hand-on activities. Language development is so important for them. Learning by doing connects the language with the concepts and allows them to express themselves in new ways with new vocabulary. Because I see all of the students in the school, everyone benefits from a funded project.
My Project
Every year I see the same students as they make their way from Kindergarten to 5th grade. One of their first questions every year is, "Will you take us to the garden." We grow vegetables that everyone finds delicious and are proud to eat.
Each year I ask students what they would like to do in the garden.
Fourth grade students noticed that the garden hose needs replacing and that drip system has no timers. Each year fourth graders are in charge of redesigning the drip system so that the garden gets watered properly. A few supplies will make this possible.
The new second graders have requested the "Fast Plants" that grow indoor as they saw these plants last year being grown by 2nd graders. From this they learn about the life cycle of flowering plants.
