I have a class of 23 amazing, vivacious, and unique first graders!
These students are on varying levels.
I have many who need a multisensory approach to learning their mathematical skills in order to be successful. I have a mixture of children of all backgrounds and socioeconomic classes. They are hungry to learn and want to be better readers. Many have not been exposed to the literature that they should have by this stage in their life. Many have single parents who work a lot. As a result, many are being raised or taken care of by their grandparents after school. We are a Title I school with a high free/reduced lunch rate and we also have Integration as well as ILC classes in our building.
My Project
These students are on varying levels. I have many who need a multisensory approach to learning their mathematical and Reading skills in order to be successful. Immersing them with an opportunity that will allow them to create their own manipulatives will help my students' success level to soar! My students need the Silhouette Mint to allow them to create manipulatives on the items they need to work on in order to be successful. If a child needs to work on ten frames, they can make their own ten frame stamp, if they need to work on "sneaky e words" or their letters, then they can create the stamps they need to use in small groups and during independent practice. This will allow them to learn challenging skills and be successful in all areas. This project will open so many doors and expose my students to experiences that classroom teaching can not. Technology is becoming more prevalent in our society. This project will expose my students to an opportunity to actually be involved in their learning and to create the materials that they personally need to increase their success rate.
This project will provide all of my students with the opportunity to learn the skills and concepts they need to internalize in order to be successful in the world of mathematics and English Language Arts.
By providing my students with the opportunity to increase their ability to successfully complete the tasks needed in order to become competent and productive mathematicians and readers! This is important because it is the fields of mathematics and English Language Arts that are the focal points and will be the focal points when they enter society!
