My Students

"A place for everything and everything in its place," (Benjamin Franklin) is one of my favorite quotes to tell my students. When you teach inclusion classes, it's very important to help them learn organization. When you are organized, you are better prepared for the day.

My students are my life.

When I decided I wanted to be a teacher, I wasn't sure of the students I would encounter along my journey. I am currently teaching in a high poverty school with very high mobility. I teach two classrooms of third graders. My focus is on math, science, and social studies. One of my classes is an inclusion class. We have a mixture of all abilities within that class of students. My students are charismatic, emotional, strong willed, and loving. It is important to build relationships with our students as they often times come to school seeking positive words and interactions from an adult. Relationships are so important with the students in my school. As a school, we understand and value relationships with our students, their families, and each other.

My Project

My students will use their chair pockets to keep their materials organized. Because I believe that most of my students learn best by working in groups and by listening to their peers, they have been put into groups by using small square tables. My students do not use desks; therefore, they do not have anywhere to keep their materials. By having chair pockets, they are able to keep their supplies and materials at arms length at all times. Because we team-teach in 3rd grade, my students travel to another classroom for half of the day. Having the chair pockets will allow them to have easier travel to their next class. They will be able to pick up their chair pocket and carry it with them to the next room. Currently, the children are carrying all of their materials/supplies to the next class in their arms, this sometimes include 2-3 textbooks, folders, notebooks, and supplies.

My students will be able to have all supplies and materials at an arms length.

Having the chair pockets will also promote organizational skills, something all children can benefit from. We currently have homemade chair pockets; however, they are not durable and continue to rip and fall apart. At this time, we do not have enough for all students in the classroom because of the poor quality.
