My Students

My students only want to feel normal. Attending school while in dirty clothes makes them feel stigmatized. If I was able to provide them with clean clothes at school and to be able to teach them how to wash their own cloths, my students would feel better about themselves.

My students do not always have the resources to have their clothes washed at home.

They come from poverty and do not always have the opportunity and/or access to a washer and dryer at home. Having these appliances at school would give them this opportunity.

My Project

I would teach my students life skills so that they could take care of their own personal needs. Being able to wash their own cloths will result in increased self-esteem which will result in increased independence outside the Special Education environment.

My students would not be socially stigmatized because they are wearing dirty cloths and smell bad.

Also, they will leave my class with skills that they can use the rest of their lives.
