Twitter 140 Conference

Starting October 1st, DonorsChoose.org is kicking off its Social Media Challenge, our annual competition among bloggers, Twitterers and other online media personalities to help thousands of high- need public school students. Last year, bloggers helped us raise $300,000 to benefit 67,000 public school students in low-income neighborhoods around the country. This year, promises to have an even bigger impact, especially with the help of your community. We’ll track your progress here and see if a bunch of tweets can have more impact than the blogs.

How you can throw your hat in the ring:

1.) CREATE a new giving page filled with classroom requests on DonorsChose.org that you and your community care about. Start by clicking on the “Social Media Challenge” chiclet. This takes 1-2 minutes to set up. Be sure to join the Giving Group “twitter 140 conference”
2.) SHARE your Giving Page with your readers/followers by posting links to your Giving Page on your Twitter, Facebook or Blog. Your readers can give as little as $5 to any of the classroom requests.
3.) PUBLISH a personalized widget which shouts out your readers who have donated.

Although the challenge officially begins in October 1st, please feel free to discuss your participation on your Blog, Twitter, etc… Your support could have a huge impact on this year’s challenge and help public school students in the process.
