My students are the most determined group of kids I have ever worked with. They clearly understand the importance of an education, and see it as their ticket out of poverty. When we have vacations, many students complain that they will have to be at home and will deeply miss their school. Our public charter school has focused on establishing close relationships with families in order to help kids succeed. We monitor student progress with multiple tests throughout the year and have been recognized by the state for raising scores among at-risk children.
