My students are from a city in Virginia that has large area of low-income housing. We have a 92% free/reduced lunch population at our school, which becomes an issue when asking for supplies and money for field trips. They are curious and ambitious students, but they do not get to have the same experiences other students have because of finances. Being first graders, they love doing arts and crafts and making cards. They are sweet and caring individuals who need an outlet for their creativity and strong structure in their classroom.
