After attending a dance convention in Dallas, TX I realized that I needed to change the way I taught my students. I have taught dance in a studio for 10 years and I have danced in studios even longer. So when my principal approached me last year to start teaching a middle school dance class along with my other course load I was ecstatic! How could I say no? So I jumped in feet first and learned not only things to do but things not to do as well. They worked so hard for me all year. So now it's my turn to make sure they have all the necessary equipment to be successful in the dance classroom. With the yoga blocks, therabands, and reference materials I will be able to teach my students in ways that I previously have not been able to. They will learn not only rhythm and dance history, but the muscles of the body and the functions of them. My goal is for them to learn ways to stretch and rehabilitate their bodies. I want to leave them with knowledge they can use in their everyday life.
