My high school students are dedicated to using their political agency to create a more equal and inclusive society. The students have asked for a space within their school day to have honest and reflective conversations centered in race and other social identities with critically conscious educators. In these spaces, students can discuss their feelings and their place in the social reckoning of the protests. We are building affinity groups that will meet virtually and then move to meet in person to support student-centered conversations about race, oppression, and liberation. Using identity as our entry point, we are excited to meet student needs and support their growth in racial literacy leading to greater empathy and understanding for all students on our school campus.
