My students attend a school located in Queens, NY, in the most diverse area of Queens, in the heart of Flushing! Our school promotes being healthy and caring for the community and Earth. The families enjoy participating in school activities and make every effort to help their children succeed. The majority of my students come from families that immigrated to the United States to give their children the best opportunity to succeed. They value education very much and always want the best for their children and will work long hours to support their family. Because of this reason, our students often attend after school or are left with other family members to be taken care of. We are facing a system that requires our students to be tested and continuously evaluated to meet the Common Core Standards. Using age-appropriate tools in the classroom can help prepare my students to be active learners and love to engage in their own learning.
