With this project, my students will improve their learning by being able to listen to stories as they read along. The listening center that I will create with the CD Player and Headphones I am requesting, in addition to the Read-Along Story Library, will be used during small group instruction with up to 8 students at a time. Students will follow along as stories are read to them. This will help increase the reading proficiency of my students. Since many of my students come from low-income families, some do not have access to the technology that is so vital to 21st century learning. Some of my students aren't able to read, so they get discouraged when they are required to read. The read-along books will be used as supplemental resources that correlate with the themes in our curriculum. With this learning center, they will have choices of books at various levels to support their own reading abilities. Kindergarten is such an important year for students to develop a love for reading. By giving them a listening center, students will be more comfortable with listening to the stories as they follow along. This will be helpful for not only my English language learners, but also students who are exceeding proficiency and need enrichment opportunities. Literacy is such a significant part of education, so I want to be able to assist my students in finding a love for it. The At-Your-Seat storage sacks will be used as an organizational tool for students to keep track of their reading materials. It's a place students will store books at their specific reading levels, so each child can have his or her own diverse set of books at their fingertips. The Dot Art Painters will be used for students to create endless projects through pictures regarding the books they read.
