Owning a copy of their own book will allow my students to start their personal libraries at home and continue their personal growth as readers. Reading this selection in our book club will enable my students to respond to literature, some for the first time. Our first book club was last spring. We read Angie Thomas' The Hate U Give. My students loved it. Our school even won a free trip to see the movie. We are in the last semester of our school's current existence and, for our final book club, it's fitting that we end with her new release, On the Come Up. As a parting gift to my students, I would like them to own a copy of this book to add or start their personal libraries at home.
