I am asking for forty-eight books including Fences, I Am Not Your Negro and Their Eyes Were Watching God. These books will open up opportunities for students to read independently. It's challenging to emphasize that students need to read beyond what is assigned when they do not have many options outside of assigned reading. Adding these books to our classroom library will give my students the autonomy to choose their own adventure as they select books that appeal to their individual interests. I selected these specific titles with my students in mind in the hope that they will connect with these texts in meaningful ways. Additionally, students will be able to reap the benefits of reading such as development of empathy and expansion of vocabulary--both of which will help in developing their written analysis skills.
