My students are fun, intelligent and curious. They also have Autism. I have been teaching Ferndale's Autism program since 2012. During this time I have learned children with Autism need many varied and engaging materials. Engaging materials can help students who are often overwhelmed by sensory overload, or who struggle with attention deficits. Because Autism impacts the way students experience the world their daily life can often feel overwhelming. Sensory overload occurs when the brain processes sound, taste, touch, smell and sight in a way that is loud, uncomfortable, and sometimes frightening. This is why it is important for students to have access to varied, exciting, and engaging materials that will encourage them to interact with the world. I have joined Donorschoose because I want to continue to enhance my student's educational experiences so they are engaging, fun, and full of discovery!
