My class consists of 15 boys and five girls. I have a wide range of learning styles and abilities. They are an energetic bunch that need hands-on activities to ensure concepts are learned. They keep me on my toes and love when I let them believe they are smarter than me. They are very competitive and we have challenge games as often as we can. Many of my students do not have strong academic support at home primarily due to language and financial barriers. For many, if I did not send paper and pencils home, they would not have a way to do their homework. Many students arrive at school for breakfast and do not leave until 5:30 in the evening. School is a big part of their daily lives. Our classroom, as well as the school, has a rich family atmosphere that supports each student in reaching their goals. My students are on the journey to becoming successful, independent learners and I am proud of the obstacles they have overcome along the way
