I want to support my students in taking advanced placement classes and prepare for both college and a career. My course teaches World History, but students need higher level textbooks not available in my district to prepare for the rigor of taking the AP World History exam. The course covers the entirety of World History, from the beginning of agriculture and settled societies to the present day. The more rigorous courses students can take to challenge themselves, the more choices they give themselves for their future. These textbooks I'm requesting will be used in class for students to read several times a week. Students will learn to annotate and take notes from a college level textbook to build success in acquiring historical knowledge. Notes will be in graphic organizers, foldables, or Cornell notes to allow students to engage with historical content. Different forms of note-taking provide different ways to access information and promote critical thinking of the material from their own work. Students can use their notes to write historical essays and analyze a variety of primary and secondary sources. AP World History can be the first of these challenging courses for students. I want to provide as many resources as possible for my students to find success.
