My art room is a safe haven for many of my students. They are fantastic artists! I have an extensive library in my art room that is underused. I have begun to create an alternative seating area in my classroom. A cozy colorful carpet will be a space where students can go when they need a quiet place to think, calm down, read, draw, or have a conversation with peers about their work. Educating the whole child particularly emotional intelligence is a key component of education. Students need a safe place so they can learn and take risks. I think this calm down and create Kandinsky style magic carpet will be a special place for my students.
