Children who fail to read in the early grades fall further behind each school year, because reading ability is progressively used as a tool for acquiring other types of knowledge. Many of my students are below grade level and I intend to help them progress significantly in their reading levels this year. They will be able to select books from our classroom library to read independently everyday. As a teacher, helping your students to read will make a lasting positive difference to their time at school and more generally to their lives. Being able to read is a valuable skill. For children being able to read is essential. I am asking for four guided reading collections, a set of National Geographic Readers and 13 different books including Holes, Sounder and Hatchet for our classroom library. Having these books can help me engage my students in many different types of fiction and nonfiction reading material.
