My students are expected to excel in their studies and doing that requires that they are well nourished. Most importantly, they need to make the healthy food choices on their own. Food and garden literacy helps to do that, however, my students as well as many other youth are constantly bombarded by and far more intrigued about corporate marketing of fast foods and other less nutritious options. These banners are a necessary catalyst, in addition to cafeteria modeling, that will not only counter market the fast foods, but will also serve as a standing, forever present guide to where healthy foods come from. They will serve as an ode to the school garden, showing examples of what they can have daily at the salad bar, and coaching students to at least give healthy options an honest try.
