I teach a Special Day Middle School class in a large urban area in California. Our school is identified as school-wide Title I, as 89% of our 1400 students are low-income and qualify for free snack and lunch. The students in my classroom have mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, including Down Syndrome, Autism, developmental delays, orthopedic impairments, and other health impairments. Two of my students have been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, and are confined to wheelchairs. I also teach several students with visual impairments, including some that are legally blind. My students have extremely positive attitudes, and are always super excited to learn new things. Although my students are faced with these disabilities, they deserve an equal chance to receive an education. The document camera that I am requesting will help all of my students to learn more efficiently, especially those that are visually handicapped.
