Lack of access to technology is one of the unique challenges that theatre classes and facilities face. Tablets would allow the after-school theater program students to take notes during rehearsals, record their lines for memorization, and run the public performance. They would connect the theater to the larger world of theater design and practice. With a set of tablets, students will be able to learn drafting programs, design clothing, film performances, research what other theaters are doing, learn about international theater styles, write stories collaboratively, provide feedback to each other, brainstorm, and much more. Theater can be a great opportunity to open the minds of people. With the connection that tablets provide, my students’ projects will be integrated into the theatrical community outside of our four walls. It will enable them to walk out of the class with real life skills and the confidence to put their stamp on the world.
