I have previously taught in a progressive suburban area for nineteen years and in a disadvantaged Title I urban school for the last two years. The profession of teaching in an urban school district has provided me the satisfaction of helping English Language Learners (ELL) and the insight into the major differences between the well-funded school districts and those that are historically underfunded. Today, I discovered that I had only scratched the surface while teaching in a suburban school district because many bilingual students in the urban district are unaware of their potential for educational achievement and how they can obtain a greater livelihood. Today, my passion is being fulfilled as I teach my ELL students because the knowledge and skills my students acquire in class are vital in equipping them for life.
