I teach a 12th grade Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC). My students are eager and willing to learn, in our fully integrated technology high school. With the issuance of laptops, however, we lost gave up books. I am seeking to bridge the old and the new, by using both digital and print material in my class. Most of our students come from low income families and it is often difficult to get parent support in terms of homework and projects. Our high school is one of fourteen high schools in California who have been invited by Cal Ed to participate in a New Pedagogies in Deeper Learning program. I am honored to be a part of the team bringing this new way of teaching to our high school teachers. Through NPDL students are able to design, develop, and implement student led, project based learning. We reach out to community members and each project has a global initiative.
