Here's the thing. I am an English teacher trying to teach The Great Gatsby with a severe deficiency in books. My students are unable to really delve deeply into their study of the novel because we only have a few ratty copies to use within the classroom. While I love reading it to them and helping them see all the nuances of Fitzgerald's language and imagery, I would also really like to give them the opportunity to independently explore the text, and we do not have the funds to make this happen. My goal is to start with a classroom set that we can build upon each year with second-hand or donated copies until every student can check out a book to take home with them.
