Most first graders in my class are ready to learn, but afraid to fail. I encourage them to see that learning is not a right or wrong. Our school provides opportunities for them to monitor their progress and make goals through data binders completed by the kids! It's a great transitional time for their young minds to start understanding how to think and take responsibility for their learning. I hope to teach every student to understand how their mind works, and to never be afraid to try. Every three weeks our grade level cycles through enrichment activities planned by each teacher of the grade level. Projects correspond to standards and areas being taught in the classroom. However enrichment allows students to experience learning with a higher level of thinking, in a new environment. Every student in the grade level can take part in a project in my classroom throughout the year! This gives me a chance to reach 120 first graders instead of just 25.
