The books for this project are to begin building a Spanish library for our classroom that contains stories that students can both understand and enjoy. All of these books were written by the same author and emphasize comprehensible input. This means students will be exposed to repetition of high-frequency words which they will quickly pick up on because the stories are so interesting!
The goal is for students to acquire language naturally as a byproduct of getting lost in the stories. That is why I have asked for a classroom set of "El Silbón de Venezuela." This story keeps readers on the edge of their seat while they learn about a foreign culture and an interesting legend. The other books will be used for free reading, which they can, in turn, write about and discuss in the target language. Too often, we learn about foreign languages without any practical application in the classroom. Please help my students to comprehend and produce meaningful stories in Spanish!
