I am requesting novels that will be used by 5th grade students for years to come. More than half of my students do not have any books in their homes. For some, these will be the only books they will read and have full comprehension of the passages, as they will sometimes read, and not understand the story. American history will come alive as the characters spring out of the pages and onto the lips of my students. Being Americans means we need to learn our nation's history from different points of view. The characters are soldiers, loyalists, slaves, revolutionists, families, and children. Every book is tied to social studies, writing, and literature standards. I absolutely love creating an atmosphere of cultural understanding. It is with your help that I will be able to do a better job at this. Thank you so much for considering my project.
