A flexible seating classroom is one in which traditional seating charts are replaced with seating arrangements that allow the students to sit where they choose. One of its principal objectives is to reduce the number/duration of sedentary periods of time, which research has identified as a danger to health. Flexible seating is a movement that let's students decide where and how they'll sit to learn, not learn to sit. I feel that my students would perform much better if they didn't have to stay in one seat all day. Flexible seating has been shown to improve students' behavior and their commitment to learning. I know it will do wonders in my classroom!
