Music class is a place of exploration and discovery. The ability to have a wide variety of instruments in a classroom is amazing. We have many instruments, such as the ukulele, maracas, and the piano, but only a few of each. These are instruments that require significant effort and study to learn, which our students are willing to do! Having limited instruments also makes it very difficult at the elementary level to put on performances, which is one of our three main national music standards. The more access to resources, the more learning that is able to go on during such a short class. I want to remedy this limited access by beginning to collect half sets of classroom instruments! By helping fund this project, we will have half a class set of ukuleles. This grants students more access to instruments as they only share with one person during class. This also gives students the ability to perform ukuleles in school-wide performances as an ensemble.
