For the past four years, students have been learning to program on computers in my classroom, the technology learning lab. Last year our school was able to purchase one Wonder Workshop Dash robot and what a difference that little robot made! Students were much more engaged and had a greater understanding of programming concepts with the implementation of Dash the robot. Students loved seeing their computer programs come to life through Dash. Dash can be used in grades first through fifth, but it is used mostly in the second and third-grade classes. All elementary students come to the technology learning lab once a week for fifty minutes. With only one robot, second and third-graders were only getting to program with Dash once every 4-5 weeks. If we receive an additional Dash, students will be able to program with Dash every 2-3 weeks! The extra accessories, such as the ball launcher, and the challenge cards will present students with new ways to practice using code. Learning to use computer code is a new type of language or literacy that today's students will need to understand to succeed in their future education and career. I want to give my students from our small, rural town every chance they can to be successful!
