Throughout my 14 years teaching 7th grade Reading and Social Studies, I have taught students of various academic abilities and social issues regarding their family and peers. They come from various backgrounds and levels of experience. I do believe getting them to come to school is half the battle so when they are before me for 57 minutes, I need to do what I can to teach them the skills they need to be successful not only in school but in life. We are a low income school with 100 percent of free and reduced lunch families. Staying after school is often difficult for most students. Although challenging, I do try to create my lessons and set up my classroom structure so I have some one-on-one time with many of my students of various needs weekly. Finding current engaging text and innovative ways to access materials is always challenging. I believe the Spirit of Boston cruise is a great way to honor their hard work.
