My class was created only last year to help cure the problem of students that fall through the cracks in math class. In any math class, students are working at level above level and below level. The ones above level usually have honors math to challenge them and feed their needs. Those students achieving “at level” constitute the majority of a class. However, the students who are achieving below level are the ones that fall through the cracks. There was no outlet for them to seek extra help, other than staying after school everyday with a teacher. Now that my class exists, these students can obtain the extra help needed to achieve a higher level of personal success. We try to achieve this success individually by creating individualized lessons. It's a lot of work for them and me, but we have seen improvement in the students' success levels in both my class, standardized tests, and in regular math class.
