My kindergartners are beginning their first year at a new school through distance learning. As my students log into Zoom from home, I want to make their kindergarten experience as hands-on and engaging as possible at a time when we must keep all hands off. Math time will come alive and be interactive with dry erase whiteboards for my kindergartners to draw and solve math problems and share their thinking in a concrete way in our class meetings. As my students emerge as mathematicians, they will develop number sense and begin to think of quantities in real world story math problems around basic money concepts.
My five year olds will begin to think about saving money and spending money to develop ideas to support financial literacy from the start.
These concepts will also be developed through online math programs. The stylus pens will be a great tool to support our littlest learners as we use Chromebooks for our math program as we depend on technology for delivering instructions these COVID-19 days.
