2nd grade students are almost always avid readers. They are interested in reading and engaged. They don't normally see reading as work - it is simply fun! My students have the opportunity at our school to use Renaissance Learning, a web based Accelerated Reading Program that contains literally thousands of titles. Our school has been merging two libraries and has made discarded books available to teachers which has allowed me to build a phenomenal classroom library for my students to choose from - each day for me includes daily visits to the discarded book carts to get high quality books for my classroom library. What it has meant in my classroom is that I have many wonderful books that my students are enjoying, but the books are packed into cardboard boxes that last a few weeks at most. Trying to organize the number of books I've been able to get has definitely been a challenge which has made it necessary to look at a system of organization that my students can use easily.
