The items that I have placed in my cart are to assist my students in their learning environment. My students are active 7 and 8 year olds and sitting still for 8 hours a day is an unrealistic expectation. Multiple classrooms in my building have introduced flexible seating and the teachers have rave reviews! Students are engaged and active learners when they're sitting comfortably and have various options. Flexible seating has been proven to raise student engagement and lower student behavior issues. Team Newman is working to grow their brains for third grade, they would love the opportunity to work in various settings. I can't wait for my students to have multiple seating options in their room! I have requested ball rolling chairs for students to use while working at the small group table. The chairs will force the students to use their core to balance on the ball which, along with the chairs being able to move with help them move around without being disruptive during our group work. I have requested a futon and two bean bag chairs to create a "living room" area which will allow the students to use their clip boards to work with their partners or individually. This offers an "at home" vibe for the students to find comfort. I requested stack stools and wobble stools to create two additional group options allow students to utilize their desks but at varying heights. The wobble cushions can be used on the floor or a chair so students can wiggle to assist in their desire to move. The carpet is split into 30 individual spaces so it allows the students a sense of ownership even when sitting in the same area as their team mates! Flexible Seating, here we come!
