I am requesting iPads to ensure that more of my students are able to practice reading and math skills using the online tools provided by the school. Technology in my school is handed out on a priority basis and because older students have to take test and are required to do more work the technology usually goes to them. Having these iPads in my classroom will give more students time and opportunities to learn lessons, practice skills, and grow as young readers, writers, and mathematicians. Technology is everywhere and I would love to be able to expose my students to technology as early as kindergarten. It will improve their lives because they will be better equipped when they move on and using these technology tools are required. Having iPads will prepare my 5 and 6 year old students for the world that we live in now, which is full of technology. In my class I plan to use these iPads as an independent work station for students. There will be an iPad rotation schedule that will allow students and equal amount of time and opportunities throughout the school week to practice independent reading and math skills. Students will receive modeled directions on how to use the iPads and the best way to handle them so that it is kept in the best condition. Understanding the rules of the iPad and how to handle it will promote responsibility within my kindergarten students.
