Social skills and emotional health are both topics that are big in the lives of my students but are not always easy things to explain. The books that we are ordering have the content that my students need to explore their emotions as well as learn to regulate themselves without being a disruption to the traditional learning environment. Learning is hard sometimes for my students who are a little more prone to move and shake than other students in the same setting being asked to do the same thing. One way we accomplish this learning is through our morning meetings where we go over scenarios and circumstances where the student may naturally want to do one thing but there is a better choice. In my class we learn what alternative choices are and how they can be used. The books will help us dive into the "real" life of someone else who is going through some of the same challenges as my class. The speaking prompts will help my students tie the stories we read in class to their own daily lives.
