My school has 900 students. 80% are English Language Learners and 90% of them qualify for free or reduce lunch. The majority of these students speak Spanish, but we have a total of 23 languages represented in the school. Our students see the school as a safe heaven where their academic, emotional and social needs are met. Students come happily to school everyday because they enjoy our teachers, our instructional bilingual programs and because we believe in them. Because most of our students need English Language Development to become proficient, we have an intense English Language program to make sure they acquire the level of English proficiency required to be academically successful. This ELD program is taught at every grade and according to the different levels where the students are at. We also follow a specific research based curriculum. We have been making progress in the number of students who become English proficient in the last few years.
