I work in a self contained bridge class. My students range from 5-7 years old from various different backgrounds. My students struggle in many academic areas but especially with reading. Most are about two grade levels behind. This is damaging to their self esteem and very frustrating for them. They will call themselves dumb or say "I can't" before even trying. My students WANT to learn. They CRAVE knowledge. They get so excited about learning new things. ALL of them try very hard to participate and share their thoughts when we read together. We love to do read alouds and write down our ideas together. I really want to see them succeed and reach new reading levels.
