I am a brand new teacher. My hopes with this grant would be to establish the kind of atmosphere that is calming for all of my students, no matter the mental state they enter with into my classroom. I believe this environment will bring about the serene, relaxing mode that will foster creativity among all of my students, and bring about greater overall achievement. I have asked not only for paint supplies, but also furniture that is soft in both color and texture. In addition, I wish to use the lamps so that the lighting will be a soft glow rather than bright and fluorescent. The pillows and cushions will be part of our safe space for students to relax and slow down. The table and storage shelves will help us to organize this safe, calm space so that my students have that place to go to and create.
