I am a Cinema & Media Arts Instructor, trying to build a strong program for my kids. I am also the 2018 Texas Teacher of the Year. My students are passionate, creative, and full of surprises. Our school has the most diverse population in the Austin School District, with students representing over 85 different countries and cultural backgrounds, who come from mostly non-english speaking homes. We are a Title I school, where almost 89% of our student population is on free or reduced lunch, and many of our students are at-risk. My students may not have everything they need to bring their ideas to reality yet, but they have tremendously big hearts, positive attitudes despite their circumstances, and larger than life ideas that if the right tools are put into their hands, they will exceed any expectations, and make a significant impact in our community and city.
