The students at our school come from many different backgrounds and family situations. Of our students, about 60% are eligible to participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program. Many families are struggling, especially when it comes to finding time to read and encourage literacy at home. Some of my first and happiest memories come from my year spent in kindergarten as a child. It is such an exciting time in a child's life. Kindergarten students are inquisitive and excitable, especially when it comes to learning new things. They love to acquire new skills and are proud when they do so. As their teacher, I have a great responsibility to make their kindergarten learning experience fun, fearless and fruitful.
