I teach in a Title I school in Richmond, Virginia. In neighboring districts, schools have access to a vast supply of technological resources. That is not necessarily the case at my school. There is limited access to technology. This is especially the case for my special education, history classes due to the age of standardized testing and a focus on English and Math based classes. In addition, there are not enough laptops or tablets for each student in our school. As a result, my students do not often get exposed to cool technological gadgets that would enhance their learning in a historical context. I want to give my exceptional education students access to learning in a technologically rich classroom in order to support their growth and academic development! By using these different technologies (i.e classroom microphones, speakers, and iPad), my students will be able to connect more fully with the materials in many ways! For example, they will also be able to create classroom news stories with the microphone and the iPad! The students will be able to utilize exciting apps that show digital maps and primary sources. In addition, they will be more motivated to participate in whole-class discussion with the inclusion of the classroom microphone! There are a plethora of ways the students will be able to use these resources.
