National Board Certification is the gold standard in the teaching profession. Grounded in the National Board’s Five Core Propositions that describe what teachers should know and be able to do, the certification process is designed to collect standards-based evidence of accomplished practice. In all 25 certificate areas, candidates are required to complete four components. Pursuing National Board Certification will enable me to hone my practice and become the best teacher that I can be. This will have a positive impact on the English language learners that I teach. According to numerous studies, students taught by National Board certified teachers show a two-month gain in learning when compared to those taught by teachers who are not NBCTs. My students deserve to be taught by the most effective teacher possible. This is why I want to pursue this rigorous professional development and become an NBCT.
