My students are kind, thoughtful 6th graders who still very much want to learn and please their teachers. In general, they are voracious readers and hungry for knowledge, despite their complicated home lives. The majority of students at my school come from high-poverty homes where school is not a priority. Yet, my students walk in ready to work hard to learn and the gains we make are huge.
