Superheroes vary widely in skills and abilities. This also applies to how my students learn best in the classroom setting. Many students do not learn best by sitting at classic desks and tables and remaining still. They do better with alternative seating in which they are more comfortable while learning. Some of my superheroes need to walk around like the Flash (standing desks), glide like Batman (porch swing) and stretch like Mr.Fantastic (gym mats and wobble seats). Many students fear mathematics as if it were a villain. I want to make them feel more comfortable in their setting to be focused and empowered to overcome anything, including math. Giving them alternative seating and calming lighting will provide what they need for their very own Superhero Sanctuary.
