In a time where social media, phones, tablets and other devices seem to be ubiquitous with our youth, we need real hands-on musical instruments to promote teamwork, social interaction and problem-solving strategies. Our students visit music once a week and we do not have class percussion instruments to play on and learn concepts like steady pulse and rhythm. Our percussion instruments will be used in all six of our grade levels in a variety of ways. From drum circles to pairing instruments with books for literacy projects, the possibilities are endless! Percussion, specifically hand drumming, allows children from kindergarten through fifth grade the opportunity to create simple or complex rhythms, develop listening skills and create music!
